The GirlSports program provides a great excuse to play games during your troop meeting.
Since most games don't take a lot of time to play, it's easy to fit them in at the beginning
and/or the end of a meeting! Girl Scouts of all ages love to play games, so here are a few
ideas to get you started! | Girl Scout Favorites | Non-Competitive | Team Building | Tag Games | Ball Games | Other | GIRL SCOUT FAVORITES Red Light, Green Light The girl that is "It" stands with her back turned to the rest of the players, who are at the other end of the playing field. "It" yells out "green light" and the other players run toward "It". When "It" yells "Red Light" everyone must stop running and freeze. "It" turns around as soon as she yells "Red Light" and if she sees anyone moving, the person who moved has to go back to the starting line. Play continues until someone reaches "It" and touches her on the back. That person then becomes "It." NON-COMPETITIVE Musical Hula Hoops You should start with one hula hoop on the ground for each girl. Have the girls each stand inside one as you begin playing some fun music. While the music is playing, girls should be moving from hoop to hoop (they can skip, run, hop, or anything else - the more you vary it, the more fun it is!) When the music pauses, girls should get in the nearest hula hoop. Each time you pause the music, you should remove one hoop. Now here is the difference between this and musical chairs: NO ONE is eliminated! The girls simply scramble to get into a hula hoop, regardless of how many people are already in it. At the end, there should only be one hula hoop left with the entire group squeezed inside of it! TEAM BUILDING Human Knot Players form a close circle. Everyone reaches their right hand across the circle and holds the hand of the person across from them. Then they reach out their left hand and take hold of someone *different*. The group works together to untangle the &auot;knot" without letting go. Encourage girls to work together to climb over arms, etc. to untangle. TAG GAMES Amoeba Tag Two people are "It" together. They hold hands and chase the other players. If they tag someone, that player must join them as "It." When another player is caught, the group can stay together or split into two groups of two. Each time there is an even number of players linked together they can split again, but there must be at least two people joined together as "It" at all times. Play continues until everyone has been tagged. The last person tagged becomes "It" for the next game and chooses a partner. Freeze Tag The girl who is "It" chases the other players. When "It" tags another player, that player has to "freeze" in place. The only way a player can "unfreeze" is to have someone other than "It" tag her on the back. Play continues until all players are frozen. The last person to be tagged is "It" for the next game. Team Tag Everyone joins arms with a partner and stands in place around the playing field. One player is chosen to be "It." She chases another player who also does not have a partner. The person being chased can join arms with any of the players on the field. When she joins a pair of partners, whichever player she does not link to then becomes the girl being chased. The new girl being chased can then link up with another group, freeing another girl to run, etc. and play continues until "It" tags someone. The person who is tagged then becomes "It." BALL GAMES Donkey Have players form a circle. First player calls out another player's name and tosses a ball (can be a sock, tennis ball, playground ball, or other size depending on the skill level of the group) to the player that she has called to. If player 2 catches the ball, she continues play in the same manner. If she doesn't catch the ball or she drops the ball, she will receive a "D" and then continue play. Each time a girl drops the ball, she receives another letter, until she spells DONKEY. OTHER Mrs. Crocodile One person is "Mrs. Crocodile." She stands on one side of the playing field while the other players stand on the opposite side. The other players say, "Mrs. Crocodile, can we please cross your Golden River?" "Mrs. Crocodile" will reply with something like, "Yes, but only if you're wearing green." If a player is wearing that color, she can move one step forward. The first person to reach "Mrs. Crocodile" becomes the next "Mrs. Crocodile" and play continues. Red Letter The girl that is "It" stands with her back to the rest of the players who are at the other end of the playing field. "It" calls a letter from the alphabet and if a player's name contains that letter, the player can move a step forward (or two steps if she has that letter in her name twice, etc.) "It" keeps calling out letters until someone has been able to touch "It". That player then becomes "It." You can make this simple for Daisies by using only first names and having them stand closer to "It" or make it more difficult for older girls by having them move only if their names contain a letter that is "two letters after" the one that is called, etc. |
