Girl Scouting Beyond Bars Mission and Goals Why We Started GSBB The mission or purpose of Girl Scouting is to inspire girls with the highest ideals of character, conduct, patriotism and service that they may become happy and resourceful citizens. Girl Scouting seeks to accomplish this by providing girls opportunities to develop their potential and have fun with their peers in a supportive, all-girl setting. In addition to the Girl Scout mission, GSBB further addresses the special needs of girls whose mothers are incarcerated. Children are the innocent victims of their parent's crime and incarceration. Studies demonstrate a correlation between the incarceration of a parent and an increased probability the child may develop any one or more of the following behaviors:
