Commit to a Girl . . . Become a Mentor for Girl Scouting Beyond Bars How Does GSBB Mentoring Work? Interested women 18 and older are asked to commit to GSBB girls once a week over the course of one year. Mentors will meet with girls in a public place close to their homes in Newark, Plainfield or Trenton. Mentors and mentees are matched based on common interests and needs. Just an hour a week can have a huge impact on a girl's life. You will become a trusted adult and advisor, someone a girl can look up to and rely upon. As the relationship deepens, you can help your mentee set and achieve goals that underscore her dreams for the future, knowing you played a major role in improving her life. Girl Scouts of Rolling Hills Council will provide mentors with orientation and initial, intensive training and ongoing support. Both mentors and girls should always feel comfortable in their relationships and they can count on council staff to work hard promoting the mutual success of these mentorships. Mentors are asked to provide written feedback after each meeting with the girls to evaluate the program's strengths and determine where improvement is needed. To ensure girls' safety, volunteer mentors must be willing to submit to a criminal background check and fingerprinting. GSBB staff will conduct an interview with prospective mentors to ensure a favorable match. Make a difference |
