Requirements

| 1. | | The candidate is an active, registered member of the Girl Scouts of Rolling Hills Council. |
| 2. | | The candidate has completed one year as a leader or assistant leader. |
| 3. | | The candidate has completed basic leadership courses. |
| 4. | | The candidate has participated in at least two meetings or events beyond the troop (council-wide or community-wide; e.g. service unit meetings, council meetings, etc.) |
| 5. | | The candidate must have secured an adult who has completed training required to certify as a Level 1 First Aider (CPR and First Aid training), and an adult who has completed Outdoor Skills training (minimum Outdoor Prep and Camp-In). |

| Approval Procedures |
| 1. | | The candidate completes an application for the Leadership Development Pin and mails it to:

| 2. | | 2. The application will be reviewed and if all requirements have been met an approval letter will be mailed to you. At your convenience, bring your letter to Patches Plus, the council shop, to purchase your pin. |

| Form of Recognition |
| The Leadership Development Pin is worn to represent the continued dedication to skills development among adult leaders. The pin depicts a brown owl on a yellow background. It is earned for completion of the basic troop leadership criteria. Additional courses are recognized with leaves, which can be attached to the pin. The Leadership Development Pin is worn below the personal identification pin. |

| Additional Recognitions |
Leaders are encouraged to take additional courses in subject areas that will increase their skills in working with their troops. The hours can be completed through courses and workshops such as True Colors, Song Leaders, CPR/First Aid Re-certification, Outdoor Skills, Camp Unit Leader Training, Ceremonies Training, SU Team training or workshops, and more. Additional recognitions to the Leadership Development Pin (earned by completing the required basic courses), are leaves earned as listed below:
Green leaves: Each green leaf represents 10 additional hours of development.
Silver leaves: Each silver leaf represents 50 additional hours of development. Five green leaves can be replaced with one silver leaf. 60 hours would be represented by one silver and one green, 70 would be one silver and two green, etc.
Gold leaves: Each gold leaf represents 250 additional hours of training. Five silver leaves can be replaced with one gold leaf.
Additional recognitions are earned based on courses taken after (not including) orientation, new leader basic and initial level training course.
