Important Information for Out of Council Troops

Girls Go Green Patch for Juniors

The program is intended to raise the girls' awareness and concern for the wellness of the planet. We hope that all troops will participate in this council-wide project.

Leaders: Junior Girl Scouts can earn this individually or they may work together to earn it. Please make certain that they understand that adult supervision is required for internet activity There is not a stated number of activities required but the girls should do the activities to the level that they are learning and enjoying the experience. Make it appropriate to your troop members. There is a list of many good "green" websites (Girls Go Green Links) that you can refer to for more activities, tips, facts and more.

There are four areas of activities:

Discussion/Brainstorming

Mention:

• What things you recycle
• What you don't recycle
• What else we could recycle

Learn some terms (supply simple definition):

Fun Activities

Do a quiz, play a game, do a puzzle and report the activity. Use the Girls Go Green Links page to find an activity. Try a "Green" Craft using recycled materials.

Discovery

Find out some surprising facts about "Greening our Planet." For instance:

• Recycling one plastic bottle can save enough energy to power a light bulb for six hours.
• Americans drink over 29 billion bottles of water a year - that is 29,000,000,000 - and almost all of those end up in landfills.
• One trillion, that's 1,000,000,000,000 plastic bags are used every year and plastic bags take 1,000 yrs. to decompose in a landfill.
