Operation Shoebox Packing Events

May 17, 2008 - 2nd annual Bocce Invitational tournament at Colonial Park, Franklin Township, packing begins at 11 a.m. This is a major fund raiser for OPSHBX NJ and the goal is to pack 1,000 boxes.

June 28, 2008 - Veterans Plaza, Somerville, adjacent to county Administration Building, Grove Street, 11 a.m., co-sponsored by the Somerville Business and Professional Association.

All Girl Scouts, leaders and families are invited to participate; we encourage all participants to bring a bag of donated supplies that can be sorted and shipped overseas. Cards and letters are welcome.

The following items are requested by our troops overseas. All donated items must be in their original packaging.

• Sun screen
• Foot powder
• Eye drops
• Beef jerky
• Bug spray (pump only)
• Lip balm
• Ear swabs
• Moist baby wipes (travel size)
• Razors - small packages
• Small drink mixes
• Socks
• Snack food - small bags of pretzels, crackers, popcorn
• Cereal/protein bars
• Microwaveable foods (Can or box)
• Hard candy/gum
• Writing materials
• Batteries (any size)
• Calling cards - AT&T only!
• Coffee - individual packets, no cans!
• Packets of hot chocolate
• Tea bags - small boxes - 48 bags or less
• Toilet paper
