Girl Scouts, Where Girls Grow Strong

and where adults grow, too!

Sharon Lawton, former Rolling Hills Council President

I have been an adult Girl Scout for almost 20 years. I started as a volunteer when I was 24 years old, long before I had daughters of my own. I have worn a variety of "Girl Scout hats" at the troop, service unit and council level.  I have served as a troop leader/co-leader, Service Unit registrar, Service Unit cookie sale co-chair, Member-at-Large, Vice-President and President of the Board of Directors and as a Nominating Committee member.

I probably wouldn't be a twenty-year veteran of volunteering if I wasn't getting so much out of it myself. Some of the highlights:
  • working with other committed volunteers and staff who make my own contributions look small
  • feeling that I'm making a difference in my community
  • meeting wonderful people from across the country
  • learning to be very comfortable speaking to large groups
  • meeting some extraordinary young women who make me feel more confident about the future
  • forging lasting friendships with Girl Scouts from 14 to 74 years old!
I think everyone should have a chance to volunteer for something they feel strongly about. If that "something" is the future of girls and young women, I hope you'll consider Girl Scouting.

If you are interested in volunteering, complete the Online Interest Form or respond to volunteer@girlscouts-rh.org for more information. Whatever your skills and interests, you can make a meaningful contribution. Free training is provided.
