Become a registered Girl Scout member.
Know the GS policies and procedures as stated in the Leader's Digest and Blue Book of Basic Documents, as well as Rolling Hills Council policies and procedures.
Know and refer to the health and safety guidelines and the Girl Scout Program Standards covered in Safety-Wise.
Participate in appropriate training sessions.
Foster the aim of Girl Scouting to create an inclusive and pluralistic environment - EVERY GIRL, EVERYWHERE.
Know the Girl Scout program resources and activities available to girls and leaders, especially those for the particular age level with which you work.
Be a role model and mentor for other Girl Scouts.
Encourage and coordinate the participation of people who can enrich the Girl Scout movement by sharing their skills and knowledge.
When leading a troop/group, make sure that all girls are registered. All adults working with the troop should also be registered in accordance with Safety-Wise guidelines, p. 69
Leaders should meet with their troop on a regular, agreed-upon basis. Be consistent and maintain communication with all involved (parents, volunteers, girls).
Know the basic developmental characteristics and needs of the age level with which one works.
Familiarize yourself with Girl Scouting and the resources available to you through Rolling Hills Council via books in our shop or library and through our website.
Be adept at troop/group management. For troop leaders, this includes time and activity management, record keeping, finances. For all adult volunteers it means managing the group, including Girl/Adult partnership and encouraging and coordinating participation and feedback.
