Candace Ashmun Environmental Consultant A graduate of Smith College in Northampton, MA with a degree in Physics, Candace McKee Ashmun has also studied and tirelessly devoted herself both professionally and in her volunteer endeavors in Land Use Planning and Water Resource Management. Since 1982, Candace has been acting as a private consultant to non-profit organizations on environmental matters and on the utilization of computers for office automation. Currently, she serves as the project consultant for the Association of New Jersey Environmental Commissions Environmental Summit/Green Plan Project. As part of this project, she coordinates monthly Environmental Summit meetings involving 40 statewide non-profit organizations. In addition she is consultant to the New Jersey Conservation Foundation on matters relating to the implementation of the State Development and Redevelopment Plan. Perhaps it is the volunteer domain wherein Candace has most distinguished herself. How many people can report that they have been reappointed to a government commission by four different governors? In 1979, Candace was named to the original Pinelands Commission by Governor Byrne and has been reappointed by Governors Kean, Florio and Whitman. Currently, she serves as a member of the sub-committees on Public and Governmental Affairs and Policy and Plan Administration. In 1989 Governor Kean appointed Candace to the State Planning Commission which adopted the first State Development and Redevelopment Plan. In addition, Candace has served on many federal commissions and advisory groups as well as state and municipal boards and planning groups. She serves as Vice President of the Board of the Fund for New Jersey and is a member of the Board of the Housing/Environmental Coalition. In addition, Candace has published many articles including Municipal Land Use Decisions – A Decision Makers Guide. Her awards are numerous including the Great Swamp Watershed Association’s Marcellus H. Dodge Award in 2000, the Frank Oliver Award from the New Jersey Environmental Lobby in 1997 and the APA National Citizen Planner Award in 1996. A resident of Somerset County since marrying husband Charles Ashmun in 1946, Candace has raised three children and is a grandmother to eight. |
