Janet Matts Director, Leadership Practice, Johnson & Johnson Janet currently works at Johnson & Johnson, Learning Services as Leadership Practice Director in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Her current role focuses on the creation and implementation of new Leadership Practices in the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies. Janet’s educational background includes a Master’s in Special Education from Columbia University and a BA from Moravian College. Her first experience in the field of education included a Peace Corps assignment to start one of the first schools for mentally handicapped children in Nairobi, Kenya. She worked in a variety of educational settings, including public and special needs schools, specializing in the field of emotional disturbance in adolescents. During her 17 years at Johnson & Johnson, Janet’s work has centered on how learning and people development enhance business goals. Currently, she is an internal consultant in Learning Services and works closely with Cordis, one of the largest Johnson & Johnson Companies. She has been coaching and consulting to a variety of senior executives, teams and others in the organization in the areas of Leadership, Change, New Product Development, Transitions and 360 Feedback. Janet’s focus on talent management includes the creation of three products for Johnson & Johnson that support the leadership potential and development for the corporation. TalentScope© is a dialoguing, visual process to allow leadership to share ownership of the talent pool and talk about performance, potential and people development in a realistic and trusting way to support the growth of the leadership pipeline. TalentQuest© supports creating the right opportunities on the job for development and helping people reach their potential. TalentCoach© develops strategies for leaders as coaches to create an environment where talent flourishes, and provides the infrastructure for the development of coaches. Janet’s coaching is aimed at helping others grow their authentic selves, as leaders and as human beings. Maximizing individuals’ potential and well-being, as well as performance, allows them to learn, grow and serve the world. She focuses on international leaders, and the teams they lead, in an effort to grow their "learning edge." Her own "learning edge" was expanded in a personally rewarding volunteer experience. In August, 2001, Janet served as an EarthWatch volunteer in a Maternal and Health Care project in the slums of Chennai, India. Janet described her experience in these words: "It allowed me to ground my purpose, ideals and coaching in things that matter to me, that is, service to Third World issues. It allowed me to ground the coaching that I provide to others in their particular passions and callings." |
