Ellen O’Connell Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP Ellen O’Connell’s practice focuses on representing management in all phases of labor relations. She has also served as labor counsel to both private and public sector employers in union elections, the negotiations of collective bargaining agreements and the arbitration of labor grievances. Armed with a B.A. from Boston College and a J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law, Ellen has made her mark in labor negotiations. Ellen counsels employers in matters concerning state and federal courts to defend employers in cases involving employment discrimination, whistle-blowing and sexual harassment. Her experience includes corporate counseling on employment handbooks, employment contracts, restrictive covenants and non-competition agreements. As part of her wide-ranging labor practice, Ellen has worked with a variety of corporations to investigate allegations of sexual harassment and gender bias, and has counseled clients in the formulation and implementation of sexual harassment training for managers. In 1993, Ellen was appointed to the New Jersey Supreme Court Committee on Sexual Harassment, which drafted the sexual harassment policies and procedures for all state courts. In 1996, she was named vice chair of the New Jersey Supreme Court Committee on Women in the Courts. She has previously served on the Ad Hoc Committee on Pro Bono Services and was Vice Chair on the Committee on Women in the Courts. Since 1996, Ellen has acted as Treasurer of the New Jersey State Bar Foundation. In addition she has held numerous positions with the New Jersey State Bar Association including Chair of the Judicial and Prosecutorial Appointments Committee, the Professional Responsibility Committee, the Committee on Pro Bono Services, the Committee on Public Relations and the Task Force on Alternative Work Arrangements. Currently, Ellen serves as Chair of the Community Health Law Project, a concern that is dear to her heart. Her early years as a Girl Scout in New Jersey impressed upon her the value of community service, clearly evident in her many philanthropic endeavors, including serving for six years on the Board of Directors of Girl Scouts of Rolling Hills Council. |
